The Lunar New Year is one of the most significant celebrations in many Asian cultures, marking the start of the lunar calendar. Known as a time for transformation, renewal, and unity, the Lunar New Year celebrates themes of prosperity, family, and community. It’s a cultural tradition rich with symbolism, featuring vibrant performances, festive foods, and meaningful rituals that honor both the past and the hope for the future.
In 2025, the 28th Greater Pittsburgh Lunar New Year Celebration brings this cultural tradition to life, uniting diverse communities to celebrate together through art, music, and dance.
A highlight of this year’s celebration is the Youth Art Exhibition, hosted by the CASTP Organization at the prestigious Carnegie Museum of Art on January 26, 2025. This unique event provides K-12 students in the Greater Pittsburgh area with a platform to showcase their creativity and connect with their cultural heritage.
The exhibition encourages young artists to reflect on themes inspired by the Lunar New Year, such as transformation, family, and dreams for the future. Each piece of artwork will be displayed in the museum’s Hall during the Lunar New Year celebration, fostering a sense of pride and community while spotlighting the importance of cultural expression.
We are thrilled to bring the vibrant rhythms and movements of West African dance to this incredible event. Our performance aligns with this year’s theme, “Spiral Symphony: A Chorus of Transformation and Renewal,” adding a unique global perspective to the celebration.
By sharing the richness of West African culture, we aim to highlight the universal values of renewal and unity, creating connections that transcend borders and traditions.
The Lunar New Year celebration is more than an event—it’s a space for cultural exchange and community building. Events like this foster deeper understanding, inclusion, and the preservation of traditions across generations.
